Sewer Rate Increase effective September 1, 2024

***RATE INCREASE EFFECTIVE SEPTEMBER 1, 2024***
To continue providing reliable and efficient sewer services, the City of Lookout Mountain is implementing a necessary rate increase.
Effective September 1, 2024, residential sewer rates will be increased to account for escalating costs to maintain and run our mountain sewer system. We are committed to providing high-quality sewer services and ensuring the sustainability of our infrastructure. This rate increase is essential to maintain and improve our sewer system for the benefit of all mountain residents and businesses.
The rate increase is necessary to address several key factors, including:
- Wastewater treatment costs are now over $150,000 per year, and past increases in those costs have averaged 6% year over year.
- Sewer grinder pumps and related repair parts price increases.
- Electric utility prices continue to increase.
- Prior infrastructure repairs and increases in replacement parts.
- Infrastructure improvements including rehabilitation of the City's Sewer Pump Station.
- Odor and corrosion control costs continue to increase.
