City Council

Purpose
The City Council serves as the legislative body for the City. Responsibilities include establishing policy direction, adopting the annual budget, and appropriating funds to provide municipal services. In addition to the Council and Mayor, we rely on the assistance of many citizens who serve on committees and boards supporting the operation of the City.  

Appointment
The City of Lookout Mountain, Georgia is defined as a council-manager form of local government. The Mayor and City Council are elected to four-year staggered terms with the vice-mayor selected by the City Council. The Municipal elections will be held the same day as General Elections for the State of Georgia. For more information, please visit our Elections page.

Meetings
Regular meetings of the City Council are held at 6:00 p.m. at City Hall on the second Thursday of each month.  When this date falls on a legal holiday, the City Council shall meet on the following Thursday.  

With public notification, called meetings of the City Council can be held off-cycle to address pressing business needs that require immediate attention by the Council.
