New Residents - Start Here!
Welcome to Lookout Mountain, GA. We are so excited for you to join our magical community. Moving into a new home can be an exciting adventure, but it also comes with a list of tasks and responsibilities to ensure a smooth transition. Whether you are relocating from across the country or just down the street, this guide is designed to help you navigate the process of settling into your new home in our mountain community. From setting up utilities to getting acquainted with local services, here's everything you need to know.
CITY VEHICLE DECALS
Under City Ordinance 88, all motor vehicles owned by residents must display an official city vehicle decal. This requirement enhances security and safety within the city. The decals, in combination with surveillance cameras throughout the mountain in both Georgia and Tennessee, allow our police to monitor vehicles more effectively, making it easier to distinguish between resident and nonresident motorists. This measure not only aids in crime prevention but also promotes the general public interest, welfare, and safety of the city's inhabitants, which is our utmost priority. Decals may be purchased in the office during normal operating hours. For fast service, fill out your form before you come in. Download here.
GOLF CART REGISTRATION
Golf cart registration is required to legally operate a golf cart within the city limits. In reference to O.C.G.A. section 40-6-360, a low-speed vehicle may be operated only on streets where posted speed limit is thirty-five miles per hour (35 mph) or less. This does not prohibit a low-speed vehicle from crossing a road or street at an intersection where the road or street has a posted speed limit of more than thirty-five miles per hour (35 mph) Gasoline-powered motorized carts are strictly prohibited.
Golf Cart Registration forms must be completed and an inspection of the golf cart must be performed by an officer. This can be scheduled by calling our PD at 706-820-1051. One of our officers will be more than happy to come to your home or you may bring it up to city hall. Cost of registration is $20 and must be renewed annually by July 31st.
