Bill Pickering has been City Attorney since 1979. He is a shareholder in the Chattanooga law firm of Chambliss, Bahner & Stophel, P.C., and is licensed to practice law in Georgia, Tennessee and Alabama.
Mr. Pickering graduated from the University of the South (Sewanee) where he was elected to Phi Beta Kapp a. He earned his law degree from Vanderbilt University in 1976 and was Associate Editor of the Vanderbilt Law Review.
Mr. Pickering is a past president of the Chattanooga Bar Association. He is listed in The Best Lawyers in America(Labor & Employment Law) and has been elected as a Fellow in both the Chattanooga Bar Foundation and Tennessee Bar Foundation.
Mr. Pickering is married to the former Jane Cobb and has one son, Will. The Pickerings are members of Grace Episcopal Church.
